A tribunal here on Thursday convicted a man and sentenced him to life term imprisonment for possessing illegal drugs.
The convict was identified as Bairul Islam, son of Jashimuddin of Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district. The tribunal also fined the convict Tk5,000, in default to suffer six months more of rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, a patrol team of police arrested Bairul Islam along with 13 liters of Phensidyl syrup while he was going to Kansat Bazar with the illegal drug at about 9:15 pm on august 27, 2010.
