A court here on Tuesday sentenced him to life imprisonment for killing his sister-in-law in 2012.
The convict was identified as Mahrram Ali, son of Lutfur Rahman of Shahrasti upazila. The court also fined him Tk 20,000. According to the prosecution, Khodeza Begum, wife of Yunus Miah of Patoir village, had an altercation with her sister-in-law Nehar Akhter on May 22, 2012 over a trifling matter.
At one stage, Nehar’s brother Mahrram kicked Khodeza in the abdomen, leaving her unconscious. Later, she was declared dead by a physician.
Yunus filed a case against his brother in this connection.
On July 31, 2012, police submitted a charge-sheet against Mahrram.
After examining the records and witnesses, District and Session’s Judge Zulfiker Ali Khan handed down the verdict.
