A tribunal here on Wednesday convicted a man and sentenced him to life term imprisonment for violating a minor girl in 2011.
The convict was identified as Abdul Hye Prakash Abdullah,48, son of late Abdul Haque of Purba Gomdandi Bahaddarpara village in Boalkhali upazila.
The court also fined him Tk50,000.
According to the prosecution, the convict, Abdul Hye Prakash Abdullah, picked up a seven-year-old girl from his village and raped her taking her to a place on December 5, 2011. Later, the victim’s mother filed a case against him with Boalkhali Police Station.
On February 11, 2012, police submitted a charge-sheet against him. After examining the records and witnesses, District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Judge Rezaul Karim handed down the verdict.
Two foreigners held: Members of Detective Branch (DB) police arrested two foreigners from a residential hotel at city’s Chawkbazar area at 1 pm yesterday.
Acting on tip off a team of DB police raided a residential hotel at city’s Chawkbazar area at 1 pm and arrested Mashuza, 40, a citizen from Cameron and Banko, 36, a citizen from Ghana. The arrested persons confessed that they are the citizens of Cameron and Ghana. DB is being scrutinizing their passports and quizzing the reason for coming in Chittagong, Engineer Hasan Chowdhury, Additional Deputy Commissioner of DB said.
