A court here on Tuesday sentenced a man to two years’ rigorous imprisonment for torturing his wife for dowry in Matlab (North) upazila in 2009.
The court also fined the convict, Al Amin Jamader alias Mizan Jamader ,34, a resident of Ladhua village in the same upazila, Tk 50,000, in default, to suffer for six moths more RI.
According to the prosecution, on October 18, 2009, Parul was beaten up by her husband Al Amin as she failed to bring him Tk one lakh as dowry from her father.
On information, victim’s father Momin Ali rescued her and got her admitted to the upazila health complex.
On October 22, 2009, Parul filed a case against her husband Al Amin with the court concerned for torturing her under the Section 11 of Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000.
After examining the witnesses and evidence, Judge Romoni Ranjan Chakma of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, Chandpur, handed down the verdict.
