A youth was killed in a clash between two groups over establishing a coal-fired power plant in Banshkhali upazila, during a views exchange meeting held in Boro Ghona area on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Ali, 35, son of late Khalilur Rahman.
Officer-in-Charge of Banshkhali Police Station Md Alamgir said an open views-exchange meeting
was held on Wednesday noon in Boro Ghona area led by Commodore F Sohael, a duty officer of the Joint Force assigned to the power plant project, where the members of the ‘Committee to Protect Homestead and Graveyard’ and local Awami League leader Nurul Mostofa’s supporters engaged in a clash, leaving five injured.
Later, they were taken to Banshkhali health complex and when the condition of injured Mohammad Ali and Mohammad Jamal, son of late Khalilur Rahman, worsened they were shifted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where Mohammad Ali died under treatment at 9:15pm, he added.
In charge of CMCH police outpost SI Jahirul Islam said Mohammad Ali died under treatment as his head sustained serious injuries.
