In Barguna, a man set fire on his house, leaving his step daughter dead on the spot and her mother critically injured over a family dispute in Patharghata upazila of the district early Thursday.
This tragic incident occurred at Ruhita village in Patharghata union of the upazila around 2:30 am.
Local sources said that step daughter Sakhina Akther,10, died on the spot ,while her mother Shajenur Begum, 30, has been undergoing treatment with 80 percent burn injury at
Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal.
Meanwhile, Police also recovered body of the alleged step-father, Belal Hossen, aged 35, hanging from a rope tied with a mango tree near a canal in Sadar Patharghata union of the upazila around 10:30 am on Thursday.
According to Ibrahim, cousin of the deceased, Belal Hossen, married Shajenur around 1.5 years ago. Discord between them had been going on since their marriage. Local negotiation tried to ease the situation several times. Even Belal Hossen often threatened to burn mother and daughter.
“Body was sent to Barguna Sadar hospital for post-mortem report. Legal action will be taken against them,” Hanif Shikder, Officer-in-Charge of Patharghata police station, told media.
