A young man in Jessore has been beaten to death following a tiff over ‘sitting on chair’ during a victory celebration programme of a newly elected Union Parishad (UP) member.
The incident occurred at Ward-1 under Maswimnagar Union at Manirampur Upazila on Friday night, said Aynuddin, the in-charge of Rajagangj Police Investigation Centre.
He identified the victim as Raju Ahmed, 22, who
hailed from Upazila’s Talsari village.
Aynuddin said Raju got engaged in fight with some local youths on the silly issue of sitting on a chair around 9pm on Friday during the celebration programme. He was severely injured after being brutally beaten.
He died on the way to the hospital. Manirampur police OC Taherul Islam, however, said, they did not find any sign of assault in his body during preliminary investigation. He added that no case had been filed yet over the incident.
