After killing his wife and minor daughter with a sharp knife in Domar upazila of Nilphamari, a man tried to commit suicide by stabbing himself in the stomach.
At the time, killer’s one-month-old baby Yashin and his mother-in-law Bilkis Begum were also injured.
The deceased are identified as Ziarul’s wife Ratna Begum (25) and two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Yasmin Akhter.
The accused person is identified as Ziarul Islam Zia (30), son of one Sumaru Mamud of Chandinapara area of Boragari Union.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon.
Three injured persons including the killer Ziarul were rushed to Domar Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
According to locals, on Wednesday afternoon, Ziarul quarreled with his wife Ratna Begum over family dispute.
At one stage of the quarrel, Ziarul took a sharp knife from the house and hit the minor child in his mother-in-law’s lap and threw him on the ground. When her mother-in-law went forward to take the child, Ziarul hit her mother-in-law with the knife.
After that, with sharp knife Ziarul struck his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter and confirmed her death. Later he killed his wife with that knife. After killing his wife, Ziarul tried to commit suicide by inserting the knife into his stomach. But he survived.
Confirming the matter, Domar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahmud Un Nabi said, “Police were sent to the spot.”
