Footballer Mamunul Islam has recently been served a show-cause notice by his club Chittagong Abahani asking why he returned hotel at midnight before the June 6 final of Walton Federation Cup. The Bangladesh national football team captain was asked to reply within 72 hours.
“Mamunul was outside of the hotel without prior notice and returned his room at midnight, thus he performed poorly in the Federation Cup final next day,” said Chittagong Abahani manager Arman Aziz informing Mamunul received the show-cause on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Chittagong Abahani suffered a 1-3 defeat to Dhaka Abahani in the Federation Cup final, thus they failed to become the first club outside Dhaka to lift the Federation Cup in their maiden attempt. “It was a misunderstanding. I left the hotel to take my sick mother-in-law to hospital on that night and I informed it to the coach [Saiful Bari Titu]. After taking her to the hospital, I returned hotel about 11:30pm,”
Mamunul explained the reasons. “No player of Chittagong Abahani could perform in the final, then why was I was singled out among 11 players.”
