A case has been filed against 17 people, including Hefazat-e-Islam’s Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque,in connection with the violence that took place in the city’s Baitul Mukarram National Mosque area on March 26.
Khandaker Arifuzzaman, a businessman of Wari area, filed the case with Paltan Model Police Station on Monday night, said its officer-in-charge Abu Bakar Siddique, reports UNB.
The case was filed on charge of vandalising shops and vehicles, carrying out arson attacks on vehicles and attacking people during Hefazat’s demonstrations on March 26 in the Baitul Mukarram area.
The plaintiff claimed that he was also physically assaulted by the Hefazat men during the clashes.Besides, 2000-3000 unidentified men have been made accused in the case.
On March 26, at least 50 people, including several journalists, were injured in clashes between Muslim devotees and police in Baitul Mukarram area.
The clashes erupted when police barred people from bringing out a procession after Jum’a prayers protesting against the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Several cases were filed in this connection.
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court yesterday passed order to submit the probe report by May 27 in the case filed against 17 people including Hefazat-e-Islam’s Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque on the charge of making clash and violence in Baitul Mukarram and Paltan areas on March 26.
Magistrate Dhiman Chandra Mandol of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka directed the Officer-in-Charge of Paltan Police Station to accept the First Information Report (FIR) to submit the report.
