UNB, Dhaka :
West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee is likely to meet Indian Prime
Minister Narendra Modi on March 10 and will discuss Bangladesh-India relations.
The economic issues concerning her State and Bangladesh-India relations are expected to be discussed at the meeting.
She will be arriving in Delhi on March 8 for her first meeting with Modi, report Indian media.
During her recent visit to Bangladesh, Mamata promised to cooperate on the Teesta water accord and the Land Boundary Agreement between the two countries saying ‘keep confidence on me.’
She had earlier opposed it in the UPA regime. Banerjee will first call on the Indian Prime Minister along with all her MPs.
Meanwhile, Ananda Bazar Potrika reported that Mamata has written to Prime Minister Modi informing him that she wants to cooperate with the central government for settling Teesta and LBA with Bangladesh.
She wanted to let Modi know she is not against the Teesta deal with Bangladesh, said the report.
She, in her letter written after Dhaka visit, described the outcome of her visit and her assurances made to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Mamata also termed her Dhaka visit ‘positive’ in the letter.
According to Indian media reports, Modi avoided Mamata in the recent past.
An Ananada Bazar report claimed that the signing of Tessta deal will boost Awami League government’s image to a large extent though the government has no election ahead.
The Indian Prime Minister wants to visit Dhaka in April, the report claimed.
Though Modi has written to his Bangladesh counterpart mentioning that he is eagerly waiting to visit Bangladesh soon but his visit depends on delivery of the two pending issues.
Modi is reportedly does not want to visit Bangladesh empty-handed as he wants at least the settlement of one of the issues – either Teesta or LBA.
During her stay in Dhaka, Mamata reaffirmed her strong support for settling the long-pending Teesta water-sharing issue said there is no-give-and-take relation between two sisters and she can give everything to her sister Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
