Mamata Banerjee won spectacular landslide victory in a high voltage West Bengal state assembly election against India’s ruling party BJP. She has characterised her victory saying that the people of West Bengal have voted for peace, harmony, unity and solidarity and to strengthen the spirit of those core issues.
She has defeated and exposed India’s Prime Minister Narandra Modi’s insane politics of Hindu extremism and lack of knowledge of governance. He broke the state machinery and neglected the health sector. The government machinery is damaged so much that it is found incompetent for timely utilising huge medical supplies sent from all over the world to save lives of covid infected people for shortage of oxygen. Prime Minister Modi should be seen through India as a threat to India’s greatness. Third time elected Chief Minister Mamata has shown the way of challenging demagoguery.
Mamata and her party Trinomool Congress stood like a rock against BJP’s politics in West Bengal and surprised everyone winning 215 assembly seats against BJP’s only 79. Narendra Modi and his home minister Amith Shah personally campaigned but Mamata Banerjee’s politics of unity and harmony forced them to concede defeat.
Her unique political strength lies in her lack of greed and exemplary dedication to serve the people. Her pride lies in how best she can serve the people safe and better. In many third world countries when persons of ordinary background come to power they become fabulously rich in no time by robbing the people and buying loyalty by corrupting the officials. They cannot face people at free elections because losing power means corruption cases.
