Sri Lankan Cricket Board has announced a 16 member squad ahead of Asia Cup. Surprisingly Lasith Malinga who wasn’t in the preliminary squad has been added to the squad.
On 1st September already India and Pakistan have announced their respective squads for the upcoming Asia Cup. Now Sri Lanka joins the list.
Sri Lanka’s veteran fast bowler Lasith Malinga has been named in the 16-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup. After being proved in domestic limitted overs tournament he is been added.
Malinga played his last One-Day International game more than a year ago against India in Sri Lanka. His physical concerns kept him apart from the game for the last one year.
Angelo Mathews will lead the 16 member squad. Earlier it was expected that Dinesh Chandimal will be back as a captain.But he is included in to the team as a wicket keeper batsman.
Niroshan Dickwella, Lahiru Kumara, Prabath Jayasuriya and Shehan Jayasuriya, who all took part in the ODI home series against South Africa, have been omitted.
Like Dinesh Chandimal, Dhanushka Gunathilaka is back in to the squad after six match suspension for breaching the ‘Player Code of Conduct and Contractual Obligation’.
The tournament begins on September 15, with Sri Lanka taking on Bangladesh in Dubai.
