Panicked male members of minority community went on hiding leaving the paddy waiting for harvesting in the field fearing the land grabbers attack in Jambudwip village under Banaripara upazila of Barishal.
They are also facing police harassment, as a false case of looting properties and houses was lodged with Banaripara Police station by wife of a retired judge.
Saraswati Mistry, 75, of the village, told the visiting journalists on Friday that she could not sleep soundly at night as male members of the family went on hiding to avoid threats and harassments of land grabbers.
Even we could not able to harvest the ripen paddy in the field. Some women are engaged in harvesting paddy for avoiding putrefies cutting ripe paddy.
Even the grabbers are also creating obstacles us our ancient temple.’
Not only Saraswati Mistry but also 35 members, mostly females, of Mistry family narrating the similar story bursting into tears.
The distressed members of minority community further alleged that Mili Ahamed, wife of the retired district judge Mr. Fakhruddin alias Badsha Mia, lodged false complaint with the local police station against them.
Mercenaries of the land grabbers are threatening them to leave the country.
Bipad Bhanjan Mistry, a teacher of Jambudwip, told Salam Fakir, Nurul Haque Kalu and Abdul Haque, hooligans of the land grabbers, threatened us recently not to worship at the Sri Sri Joy Kali Temple, of the area.
Hemangini Mistry, president of the temple, said in a press conference at Barishal Reporters Unity on Thursday afternoon alleged that Nurul Haque Kalu, Salam Fakir and Abdul Haq and their cohorts had threatened us to stop worshiping at the temple five days ago. They forcibly collect green coconut from the trees of the temple.
On the other hand Mili Ahmed filed a case of vandalism and looting at Banaripara Police Station on November 27. Police arrested two persons from the village.
On behalf of the complainant the miscreants threatened us to leave our country, she added.
Anik Mistry, another resident of the village, said he was a student of a private engineering college in Barishal. He went to native village due to Corona, but could not be able to stay there in fear of threats, false case and police harassment.
Dr. Palash Kanti Mistry, Ophthalmologist of National Ophthalmology Institute at Dhaka and native of the village, said Santosh Majumder, son-in-law of Shyamlal Mistry, was my relative and a member of Mistry Bari in Jambudwip village. He was a teacher at Banaripara School.
Santosh was forced to leave the country in 2003 selling his properties in exchange of some lump sum amount to the grabbers.
Bipad Bhanjan Mistry then filed a presumption case in the court against selling of the land and received verdict in their favor on August 22.
After that land grabbers lodged case against the plaintiffs and threatening the minority community members of the area to leave the area.
The brick kiln owned by Mili Ahmed and managed by Salam Fakir on low-lying lands on the village was also forcibly taken away from the local Hindus, Dr. Palash added.
Hemangini Mistry, president of the temple committee, said when she went to the police station to lodge a General Diary (GD), but it was not accepted.
In addition, Sub-Inspector Osman of this police station coming to the area threatened people to nab the accused of the case lodge by land grabbers.
Then she lodged a complain with Superintendent of Barishal District Police on December 9 alleging threats and harassment by police.
