Malaysia’s March producer price down 2.2 pct on year

Malaysia’s Producer Price Index (PPI) for local production fell 2.2 percent year-on-year in March, said the country’s statistics department Monday.
The government agency said in a statement the fall was attributed to agriculture, forestry and fishing sector which dropped 11 percent, and the manufacturing sector fell 2.3 percent.
The mining sector, however, rose 5.8 percent, electricity and gas supply increased by 1.3 percent, and water supply went up 0.1 percent. For comparison, the PPI decreased by 3.4 percent in February.
On a monthly basis, PPI for local production was down 0.4 percent in March. The fall was due to the decreases in agriculture, forestry and fishing (-2.9 percent), manufacturing (-0.4 percent), water supply (-0.2 percent) and mining (-0.1 percent) sectors.
Meanwhile, the index for the electricity and gas supply rose 0.8 percent.
