Malaysian head coach Rajib Ismail with a beaming smile after making a winning start in the Bangabandhu Gold Cup Football tournament is now looking tomorrow to qualify for the semifinal as group leader while they take Sri Lanka in their final group A fixture at Sylhet Zila Stadium.
He was talking to journalists on Friday at team hotel at a pre-match press conference. Ismail said,” As you all know we managed to shock the host Bangladesh with a solitary goal victory. This has brightened our chances to qualify for the semifinal. Now as we have pocketed crucial three points, we would definitely look top the group with a positive result tomorrow (Saturday).”
“Every match is important, tomorrow’s (Saturday) match against Sri Lanka is also very important as it will give us opportunity to confirm our place in the semifinal. We want to continue on with our first day’s performance. To be honest we have no idea about Sri Lanka,” said Ismail.
When asked about the mistakes Bangladesh made against them, Malaysian coach was very diplomatic as he said, “I don’t like to comment about the mistakes which Bangladesh team committed against us, but I can tell you Bangladesh is a very strong side and also still the favorites, but as we all know in the game of football, anything can happen.”
Ismail, who was looking very relax mood, replying to a query, “Scoring goals is the thing that important to me. We just want continue on with winning tonic too.”
Nazirul, captain of Malaysia team, talking about his thought that it is very important to concentrate in every game-“We just play our game, with our mind focused to win each and every game. We always tried our best to win every match not only semifinal and final. Since we have got to a winning start, our team would love it to make it a winning habit.”
Nikola Kbazobic, Sri Lankan coach, giving his view regarding this tournament said, “we termed this tournament as a very important one, but I have disclose that the players in this team has come here after a busy domestic season in Sri Lanka.
“Players are tired, came here after a busy domestic season and had no opportunity to take special training for this tournament.”
“I have no any idea about Malaysia, it is the first time in my career, I have come to play tournament without any idea about our opponents. But as I know Malaysia is a developing country whereas football is concerned, they have strong infrastructure, quality grounds and enough facilities,” he added.
About his second visit in Bangladesh, first one before when in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh played two FIFA friendly matches where they drew one and lost one, Nikola Kbazobic said, “Two different experiences, I don’t feel any emotion, only would like to say that we are here to win the trophy. Right now I think we have 30 percent possibility to move up to final.”
“No, I don’t think things that is in our mind really,” said the Serbian Coach replying to query whether he was thinking about to take revenge against Bangladesh for their defeat in the FIFA friendly match.”
Right now concentrating about tomorrow’s fixture and would love to make winning start. Yes Malaysia already had played in this ground and are flying high with a positive result. So, we have to play really good to stop them run away with the game.
Tomorrow’s game is also very crucial whereas Bangladesh is concerned. If Malaysia able to win by more than one goal, then they will have to draw only to qualify for the semifinals. But if Sri Lanka win by a solitary goal then Bangladesh will have to beat Sri Lanka to find their place in semifinals.
