Bandarban Correspondent :
Although the prevalence of malaria disease in the district is now on the decline due to preventive measures taken by government and non-government organisations, the mosquito menace has worsened in the district during recent days in the absence of steps to check their breeding.
With the arrival of the rainy season, mosquitoes multiply hugely every year in the hilly areas of the town. That’s why, fears grow among the inhabitants; no measures have been taken by the authorities to check the insect during its breeding season, sources said.
No anti-mosquito drives were seen in important municipal areas of the town including Memberpara, Hafezghona and Uzanpara, resulting in immense sufferings of many families, the sources added.
A tea stall vender Mubarak narrated the sufferings from the mosquito bites.
Hossain Miah and Mozammel Hossain, living in the area, said they have not seen any municipality staff spraying insecticide in his area during the last 15 years.
Both public and private initiatives are being taken to destroy dirty-water lying points, which are the mushroom growth centers of mosquito.
