Jatiya Oikyafront leader Dr Kamal Hossain on Thursday called for a “ballot revolution” casting their vote in favour of “Sheaf of Paddy”, the electoral symbol of Jatiya Oikyafront and BNP, in the Parliamentary Election slated for December 30.
Urging the voters to cast their votes for “Sheaf of Paddy”, Dr Kamal said, “The symbol (Sheaf of Paddy) does not belong to any party. It is the symbol of unity. So, cast your votes for this symbol to free the nation.”
“We won in the past; we’ll achieve victory this time also. December 30 will be another victory day. You’ll stage a ballot revolution on December 30,” he said.
Dr Kamal Hossain said, no change is meaningful if people’s right is not established in the country.
Kamal was talking to reporters after an emergency meeting of steering committee of the Jatiya Oikyafront at the Oikyafront’s Purana Paltan office this afternoon, just two days ahead of the general election.
“The EC has to take full responsibility if it fails to hold a free, fair and credible election on December 30 and the countrymen will compel it to answer for its failure,” he said.
“The EC must ensure a peaceful atmosphere for holding a free and fair election,” the Oikyafront key leader said.
About the role of law enforcers ahead of the election, he said, “Their behaviour is not acceptable”.
Dr Kamal, also the President of Gono Forum, vowed to stick to the election race and urged the countrymen to take part in the “ballot revolution” by exercising their franchise.
He said, “The people’s ownership on the state will be restored through vote revolution.”
“The people will have to decide on Sunday whether or not they want their change,” Dr Kamal, one of the architects of the country’s Constitution, further said.
“There’s nothing to fear. [We] fought against autocrats throughout the life. We won, autocrats lost.”
Referring that the people of Bangladesh never bowed down to arms, money and power, Dr Kamal hoped that people will not be defeated this time.
Speaking at the same press conference, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “The government has already experienced a moral defeat as they are trying to ensure their victory using the state mechanism.”
Apart from the duo, Krishak Sramik Janata League President Kader Siddiqui, Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Zafrullah Chowdhury, Gonoforum Executive President Subrata Chowdhury, among others, were present.
