Staff Reporter :
In a major reshuffle in the Directorate of General of Health Services (DGHS), 28 of its officials have been transferred and given new postings.
The development comes days after Prof Abul Kalam Azad resigned from the post of director general and Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam was appointed as 27th DG of DGHS amid widespread criticism and scams related to Covid-19 tests.
DGHS Director (admin) Dr Belal Hossain issued a notice in this regard, asking the officials concerned to join their new posting by 12 pm tomorrow (Tuesday).
All 28 transferred officials are assistant surgeons and most of them were already attached to the Bashundhara Convention Centre Field hospital set up to treat Covid-19 patients.
The Ministry of Health also appointed Dr Farid Hossain Miah as the new director (hospitals and clinics) on July 23, a day after his predecessor – Dr Aminul Hasan — was made Officer on Special Duty (OSD). As various incidents of corruption and irregularities dented the government’s image, the government high-ups directed the ministry to bring a reform in the health directorate and the reshuffle has been made accordingly, a health ministry official said.
He said a list of DGHS officials who indulged in irregularities have been made based on intelligence agencies’ report.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque also recently told reporters that the government would take stern action against those involved in recent scams in the DGHS after proper investigation.
