Major Ghani’s death anniversary today

The 58th death anniversary of Major A Ghani, the founding father of East Bengal Regiment in the then Pakistani army will be observed today.
Major Ghani Parishad in a statement said they chalked up an elaborate programme alongside the family members and Bangladesh army to recall his contribution as a pioneering Bengali figure in the then British Indian and subsequently in Pakistan army as well as a lawmaker.
The Parishad will also offer wreaths on the grave and stage a discussion and doa-mahfil at his village home at Nagaish under Brahmanpara upazila of Comilla, near the cantonment.
A veteran of World War II Major Ghani was commissioned in the Pioneer Corps British Indian army in 1941 and played the pivotal role in raising the East Bengal Regiment in the newborn Pakistan while it played a very crucial role during the 1971 Liberation War.
