Dupchanchia Correspondent :Maize cultivators expect bumper yield of their crops in this season as the weather is favorable and the growers are successfully manage to measure fertilizer as well as standard quality seed with the held of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE). DAE has taken up a massive plan to cultivate maize in twelve upazilas of the district during the season.DAE sources said a total 20,375 hectares of land have been brought under maize cultivation in the area this year with the production target of 1, 47,640 tonnes of maize.Of the total land 2,675 hectors have been brought under the cultivation in Sadar upazila, 1,200 hectors in Adamdighi upazila, 2,250 hectors in Dupchanchia upazila, 2,250 hectors in Sonatola upazila,1550 hectors in Sherpur upazila, 1239 hectors in Dhunot upazila, 1600 hectors in Shibgonj upazila 1100 hectors in Nandigram upazila, 680 hectors in Kahalu upazila, 1,250 hectors in Gabtoly upazila and 1390 hectors in Sariakandi upazila of the district.Cultivation of the crop on vast tracts of abandoned and sandy char lands in the area is bringing a significant economic change to the poor farmers and unemployed people.
