Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda on Tuesday instructed the judicial magistrates to maintain election atmosphere and not to allow anyone or group to destabilise the heat of the campaigns.
“The election fire heat has already spread. We have to be watchful so that the flame does not make the polls atmosphere heated,” he briefed the magistrates. Once there was an invisible and artificial wall between the judges and members of the public. The wall is gradually diminishing, he said while speaking at Nirbachan Bhaban, Agargaon.
“Magistrates’ polls-time duty will somewhat diminish the wall,” he said.
The CEC said, “Our duty is only for Dec 30, the voting day.
“Our aim is to conduct the election properly so that there is no conflict or misunderstanding. We have to ensure that everyone follows the electoral code of conduct,” he added.
Pointing out that the day after the election is crucial, the CEC urged caution so that there can be no violence centring the day after the election.
“Judges are judges. A judge will never discriminate upon anyone’s affiliation. It is our expectation that you deliver proper judgment. You will do as much as required to conduct a fair election,” Huda also said.
The 11th general election will be held on December 30. It was deferred once by the Election Commission upon demands from the opposition political parties.
As per the polls schedule, the deadline for filing the nomination papers was November 28. Since then, the Commission has been engaged in hearing appeals of rejected candidates.
After December 9, the last date for nomination withdrawal, the Commission distributed polls symbols to the political partiescontest in the election.
