The mahurat of movie Bhalobasha Pritilata, based on some incidents of Bengali revolutionary nationalist Pritilata Waddedar’s life, was held at the auditorium of Department of Films and Publications in the capital’s Kakrail area on Thursday to mark her 88th death anniversary.
Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud graceed the occasion as the Chief Guest while Chittagong University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shireen Akhter and eminent organiser Amin Helali attend the programme as special guests with eminent writer Selina Hossain in the chair.
Director General of Department of Mass Communication Akhtar Hossain, Director General of Department of Films and Publications S M Golam Kibria, Vice Chairman of Bangladesh Film Censor Board Md Jasim Uddin, its Secretary Mominul Haque Jibon, theatre activist Shankar Shawjal, Deputy Secretary (Film-2) of Information Ministry Md Saiful Islam, among others, were also present on the occasion.
Produced and directed by Pradip Ghosh, the government-granted movie is the adoption of noted writer Selina Hossain’s novel of the same title Bhalobasa Pritilata. The film depicts the historical event of anti-British protests in Chittagong in 1932. Artist Kanak Aditya is the costume designer, while Bappa Mazumder is the music director of the film.
Nusrat Imrose Tisha will play the role of Pritilata, while Monoj Pramanik will act in role of rebel Ramkrishna Biswas in the movie.
Born in Chattogram in 1911, Pritilata was an anti-British revolutionary in the then East Bengal, now Bangladesh. In early 1930s, Pritilata joined Mastarda Surya Sen’s armed resistance movement.
Later in 1932, she successfully led a team to attack the Pahartali European Club in Chattogram. However, when trapped by the English on the fateful night, she committed suicide by swallowing Cyanide, ending her short endeavor in fighting for the country’s freedom at the age of 21.
