Sports Reporter :
Ace all-rounder of Bangladesh Cricket team Mahmudullah Riyad will continue his T20 campaign.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Wednesday last the 15-member Bangladesh T20 squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held at the different venues in Australia from October 16. But the experienced all-rounder and former captain of Bangladesh Cricket team Mahmudullah Riyad has been dropped from the squad. A cricket specialist said to this Reporter, ” Before announcing the Bangladesh T20 squad, the high officials of the BCB gave a proposal to Riyad. They offered him to give him a chance to officially retire from T20 cricket after playing a recognized Twenty20 International (T20I) match. But Riyad refused to do that.”
After the T20 World Cup, Riyad will play in the upcoming T20 tournaments like Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket and Dhaka Premier League (DPL) Cricket to show a notable performance and regain his position in Bangladesh T20 squad.
Dashing opener Tamim Iqbal and ace batter Mushfiqur Rahim announced their retirement formally from T20I cricket. Though the BCB was eager to include Tamim Iqbal in their T20 squad.
It may be mentioned that Mahmudullah Riyad’s age is now above 36 years. Besides, newly appointed Technical Consultant of Bangladesh Cricket team Sridharan Sriram, Team Director Khaled Mahmud and the other officials of the Team Management of the BCB were agreed to drop Mahmudullah Riyad from the Bangladesh T20 squad.
However, we expect that Riyad will show respectable performance in the prestigious domestic cricket competitions and will again play for Bangladesh T20 squad wearing the Red-and-Green jersey.
