World Cup hero Mahmudullah Riyadh, who hit back-to-back centuries for Bangladesh in the last world cricket extravaganza, is disappointed over the loss of play due to rain in the two Test series against South Africa.
“Playing against the number one Test side could have been valuable experience as a growing team,” Mahmudullah said on Sunday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, after play was called off for a third successive day of the second Test due to rain.
“It would have helped us immensely had there been ten days of cricket, whether we won, lost or drew the matches,” Mahmudullah continued.
“We would have played ten days against the best team in the world, and tested our skills better against them,” he observed.
He also thinks that the players would now have to use the Bangladesh Cricket League, which is reportedly going to be held soon, to tune up for the two Tests against Australia in October.
Australia will arrive in Bangladesh on September 28 to play a two-match Test series against the Tigers.
As the ground was not fit for play after continued heavy rain on Sunday, this Test as well as the series is certain to end in a draw.
The rain spoiled the last two days of the Chittagong Test as well, and the match ended in a draw.
