Mahmudullah Riyad will always be known as the first Bangladeshi to score a ton in the ICC World Cup history, as the Bangladesh T20I skipper will play his 100th T20I match as the first Bangladeshi cricketer ever in the third T20I match against New Zealand today.
Under his captaincy, Bangladesh registered eight T20 victories in this year (including a first bilateral T20 series victory over Australia), which is their highest in a calendar year. After winning first two matches against New Zealand in the ongoing series, Mahmudullah led the country to 12 T20 Internationals win that made him the most successful captain for Bangladesh in this format. Mahmudullah earlier was in top spot with 10 T20 wins as captain.
Mahmudullah will also become only the eighth player in this world to play 100 matches in this shortest format of cricket if he plays today’s match as Bangladesh gear up to wrap up the series.
Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik (116) and Mohammad Hafeez (113) India’s Rohit Sharma (111), England’s Eoin Morgan (107), Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien (103) and New Zealand’s Martin Guptill (102) and Ross Taylor (102) were the other seven to complete century of T20 matches.
The 35-years old right-handed batsman started his career as a lower-middle order all-rounder, who is now the T20I skipper of Bangladesh, and playing as a solid upper-middle order batsman, getting runs quite regularly, as already having played 200 ODI matches for Bangladesh, now he’s approaching a milestone that none Bangladeshi have ever reached before.
Mushfiqur Rahim, the veteran wicket-keeper batsman of Bangladesh has played the second highest T20I’s for Bangladesh, which is 88, as Shakib al Hasan, and Tamim Iqbal, the other two veteran Bangladeshis have played respectively, 86, and 78 T20I matches for Bangladesh.
The ‘Silent Killer’ of Bangladesh cricket has scored a total of 1,702 runs in his 99 T20I matches, along with taking 32 wickets, as he currently averages 23.97 runs in T20I’s, with a strike rate of 120.19, as his highest score in the format is 64*. He has scored five half centuries in T20I’s.
