UNB, Dhaka :
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will be here on a two-day visit in the first half of March to discuss issues of mutual interests with the Bangladesh leadership, said an official here on Friday.
The officials on both sides are working on a date from March 7 to 15 for the planned visit, said the official adding that the Palestinian President will
be accompanied by a big delegation. “I can’t tell you the exact date right now but what I can say he’s not coming alone,” the official told UNB over phone on Friday.
Earlier on February 14, the Palestinian President made a brief stopover at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on his way to Japan and termed Bangladesh as an ‘unflinching proponent’ of Palestinian just causes.
At that time, Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali extended an invitation to the Palestinian President and also to his Palestinian counterpart to pay a bilateral visit to Bangladesh to witness the enormous goodwill of the people of Bangladesh for Palestine.
Though the agenda of the visit is ‘yet to be finalised’ the bilateral, regional and issues of mutual interest will be discussed during his visit, Foreign Ministry sources said. The delegation members who accompanied the Palestinian President during his stopover here are likely to come with him.
