Acting Director of Public Relations Office of Dhaka University (DU) Mahmood Alam has been appointed as full-fledged Director of the same office. DU Syndicate gave him this appointment at a meeting with Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair. Earlier a high-level Selection Board recommended him for this post, says a press release.
He took BA (Hon’s.) and MA (English) in 1982 and 1983 respectively from Dhaka University. He also took MSS Degree in Political Science from the same university. Again he obtained his 3rd Masters Degree in Philosophy. He also passed LLB.
He joined DU Public Relations Office as Reporter in 1986. Since then he served this office in different capacities including Senior Reporter, Assistant Director, Deputy Director, Acting Director and Editor of the “Dhaka University Barta”.
Mahmood started his journalism career in the National English daily “The New Nation” in 1980. He served this paper as Staff Reporter, Sub- Editor and Campus Page Editor until 1995. He also served another English Daily “The Independent” as Sub-Editor in 1996. Later, he moved to another pioneer English Daily “The Bangladesh Observer” and worked there in the reporting section for long 12 years.
Mahmood visited many countries including USA, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Belgium, Spain, Bulgaria, China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Hong Kong, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Singapore.
Born in 1962 at North Subidkhali under Mirzagonj Upazila in Patuakhali Mahmood is the 2nd son of former teacher of Subidkhali Pilot High School late Motaher Uddin and late Anowara Begum.
