President of Chittagong City Unit of Jatiya Party Mahjabeen Morshed, MP, has been removed from the post after she was booked in a corruption case.
“Mahjabeen was removed from the party’s post following the case filed against her,” said Political Secretary of Jatiya Party Chairman Sunil Roy.
The Party’s Chittagong City Unit Committee led by Mahjabeen also dissolved as per the decision of party’s high command.
“New committee of the city will be announced in next conference of the party,” said Roy.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) earlier filed two cases against five persons, including Jatiya Party lawmaker Mahjabeen Morshed and her husband Morshed Murad Ibrahim for allegedly misappropriating around Tk 275crore of BASIC Bank.
ACC Assistant Director Mohammad Sirajul Huq filed the cases against them with Double Mooring Police Station in Chittagong city in this connection on 9-10 January respectively.
Other accused are former Managing Directors of BASIC Bank Kazi Fakurul Islam and AKM Sazedur Rahman and Director of IG Navigation Ltd Sayed Mozaffar Ahmed.
ACC filed the first case against JP MP and Managing Director of IG Navigation Limited, Director of the Company Syed Mozaffor Hossain and former BASIC Bank MD Kazi Fakhrul Islam for misappropriating over Tk. 141 crore. On the other hand, the second case was filed against the MP’s husband and Managing Director of Crystal Steel and Ship Breaking Ltd Morshed Murad Ibrahim for allegedly swindling Tk. 134 crore . According to the case statements, Mahjabeen Morshed and Morshed Murad Ibrahim in connivance with some bank officials took Tk 275 crore loan for their firms – Crystal Steel and Ship Breaking Ltd and IG Navigation Limited- from the bank’s Agrabad branch in 2010 preparing forged documents.
This loan scam took place from December13, 2010 to November 9 last year. Former President of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industries Morshed Murad Ibrahim serves as a Vice President of Jatiya Party central executive body. His wife Mahjabeen Morshed is a member of the women reserved seats of the Jatiya Sangsad.
