A leader of Central Mahila League was found dead in a pool of blood in her residence at Sholaghar in Faridganj upazila of Chandpur district on Monday night. The deceased has been identified as Shahin Sultana Fancy, 57. She was said to be a central committee member of the Mohila League.
Sultana was the Principal of Gollak Degree College and wife of district Awami League’s Joint Secretary General Adv Jahirul Islam, said our local correspondent quoting Wali Ullah, Officer-in-Charge of Faridganj Police Station.
He said that being informed by locals, police recovered the body around 11:00pm. The body bore several injury marks in its head. “She might have been killed,” the OC said.
Later, police detained the victim’s husband Jahirul, former president of Chandpur Bar Association, and his second wife for primary interrogation, the police officials said. The couple often quarreled as Jahirul married another woman several years ago without the consent of his first wife Sultana.
The OC suspected it was a “planned murder” and police picked up Jahirul.
The body was sent to Chandpur Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
