The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam has secured anticipatory bail from the High Court in 68 defamation suits.
These cases were lodged against him in different courts across Bangladesh
for publishing, without verifying independently, DGFI-fed ‘corruption stories’ against Sheikh Hasina during the 2007-8 caretaker regime.
The bench of justices M Enayetur Rahim and Amir Hossain granted Anam the four-week bail on Sunday.
Barrister Rafique-Ul Haque represented Anam in court while Deputy Attorney General Sheikh AKM Moniruzzaman Kabir and Assistant Attorney General Shahidul Islam Khan represented the State.
