Vandalism cases: Mahbub Uddin gets interim bail

The High Court on Monday granted interim bail to BNP joint secretary general and also SCBA general secretary Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon in three cases filed over vandalising a prison van and attacking police in High Court Mazargate area on January 30.
An HC bench comprising Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath passed the bail order following a petition filed by Khokon. Barrister Moudud Ahmed and Barrister Sanjid Siddiqui stood for the BNP leader.
On January 31, police filed two cases with Shahbagh Police Station and one with Ramna Police Station against the BNP leader over vandalising a prison van and attacking police when BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was returning from a makeshift court after appearing before it in Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.
Khokon was made accused in the cases although he stayed in USA from January 26 to February 3. He returned home on Saturday. Earlier, following a writ petition filed by Khokon’s wife Akhteruzzaman Atia, Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafar Ahmed asked police not to arrest or harass him upon his return from the USA.
