The Bengali dubbed version of ‘Bandhobi,’ a 2009 South Korean independent film, is streaming on the popular Bangladeshi OTT platform Chorki from August 25. The movie, directed by Shin Dong-il, features a Bangladeshi
actor named Mahbub Alam, said a press release.
‘Bandhobi’ revolves around a frustrated and rebellious high school student who ends up becoming a friend of a migrant worker named Karim from Bangladesh who is desperate to receive his unpaid wages back.
Mahbub Alam, also known as Mahbub Lee, said, “It was my first feature film. It was in the Korean language as well. At first, it was very difficult to learn the language. Acting with expressions in the Korean language was very new to me. I did a lot of rehearsals. I had to lose about 12kg weight for the role. It feels great to know that our film will be released in Chorki after all these years. I am glad to know that everyone in our country can watch the movie.”
Director of the movie, Shin Dong-il said, “Released back in 2009, ‘Bandhobi’ has been discussed and appreciated in different countries of the world. I am happy that the movie will now be shown to the audience of Bangladesh after a long time. I hope Bengali speaking viewers will like the movie. My sincere greetings and love to all Chorki viewers.” Mahbub Alam is a longtime resident of South Korea who entered the country as a migrant worker.
