A madrasa teacher was sent to Dhaka Pongu Hospital from Barisal Sher- e- Bangla Medical College Hospital on Tuesday afternoon after his left hand and leg amputated and tendons of right hand and leg severed by rivals over land dispute.
The victim was identified as Shahidul Islam, 40, son of Abdul Khalek Haoladar and teacher of Gazipur Senior Madrasa in Amtali.
The incident happened at about 10:10 AM Tuesday at Banshtala of Chowra union under Amtali upazila of Barguna.
Police arrested five in this connection till this report, said Sukumar Roy, Amtali police station officer in charge. Dr. Das Ranobir, emergency medical officer of SBMCH, said the victim admitted at orthopedic department at about 1:00 PM in critical condition.
Dr. Khadem Hossain, register of the department, said after giving primary treatment , the patient referred to Dhaka Pongu Hospital for better treatment and they left SBMCH for Dhaka by road after 3:00 PM Tuesday.
Bashiruddin Haoladar, elder brother of the victim, said they have old rivalries over land properties with neighbours. On Tuesday morning when Shohidul was going Amtali court to attend a case about that, the rival group on motorcycle chased and chopped him severely.
Local people rushed to the spot and nabbing Kawsar and Mahtab, two of the attackers, handed over them to police. Severely injured Shohidul also sent to Barisal SBMCH immediately, said Bahadur Talukdar, younger brother of the victim.
