UNB, Dhaka :
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday asked the members of Jubo League not to get involved in any such activities that will bring ‘bad name’ for the organisation.
“You’ve to look after one thing that no one should do any such activities that will bring bad name for Jubo League,” she said while addressing a rally, organised by Awami Jubo League in observance of its 42nd founding anniversary, at historic Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
Hasina said that, the members of Jubo League should always remain ready for supreme sacrifice as in the past for the welfare of the country and the nation.
“Jubo League sacrificed a lot in the past for establishing democracy in the country. I want the Jubo League members to be ready for sacrificing themselves in the coming days for the welfare of the country and the nation.”
In this connection, she mentioned Nur Hossain, a member of Jubo League, who made the supreme sacrifice for establishing democracy in the country.
Putting emphasis on strengthening the organization, Hasina, also the Awami League President, asked the Jubo League members to play the role of vanguard for establishing the ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Talking about the ‘conspiracy’ during the January 5 election, she said there were so many conspiracies
to destroy the democracy of the country. “There were conspiracies to foil the January 5 election. But the youths of the country were always active and vigilant; the pro-liberation forces were active. That’s why no conspiracy could succeed in destroy democracy in the country.”
About the international pressure on the government to stop the trial of the war criminals, the Prime Minister said that whenever the government started the trial of war criminals there were immense pressure on the government.
“But people of Bangladesh never bow down their head to anyone and will never do so.”
In this connection, she said trial of the war criminals was the election pledge of the government. “We started the trial after assuming office in 2009 and implemented the verdict of the trial.”
In replying to the world community’s pressure on the government not to hang the war criminals considering human rights, Hasina said: “It is the human rights of those who lost their near and dear ones.
“This is their demand; they want justice. It is their human rights, we’ve to protect their rights, not of the criminals,” she added. Accusing Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia of patronising the war criminals and making them ministers, the Prime Minister said: “What will be the answer of BNP chief when her ministers are convicted as the war criminals.
“Placards were shown and slogans chanted demanding the release of the war criminals from the rallies of the BNP chief,” she added.
“Which side she then belongs? Does she belong to the side of independence of Bangladesh or the side of the Razakars and Al-Badr?’ questioned Hasina, saying: “it is now clear when you see her rallies. From her rallies demands are coming for the release of the war criminals.”
