Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun on Thursday said low quality edible salt traders will be blacklisted through the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI).
“The government is responsible to ensure iodized edible salt for protecting public health. BSTI, under the Ministry of Industries, is working in this regard,” he told a meeting with the delegation of Bangladesh Salt Mills Owners Association at his ministry, said a press release.
Humayun said the government will not compromise with iodine-free or non-hygienic edible salt traders as the salt is harmful for public health. The government will stop the mills of low quality edible slat producers, he added.
Among others, owners of the Pubali Salt Industries Paritos Kanti Shah and Shahe Madina Salt Industries Dulal Roy and representative of the Mollah Salt (Triple Refined) Industries Limited MA Mannan were present at the meeting.
Later, a delegation of Bangladesh Journalist Foundation for Consumers and Investors (BJFCI) met the minister at his office.
During the meeting, they discussed various issues, including development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) and training for the SME related journalists.
