Low over Bay of Bengal may intensify into cyclonic storm

A well-marked low was concentrated into a depression over Southeast Bay and adjoining Andaman Sea area and was centred at 12.00 pm yesterday (Friday) about 1,350 km south-southwest of Chattogram Port, 1,275 km south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar Port, 1,335 km south of Mongla Port and 1,290 km south of Payra Port.
It is likely to intensify further and move in a northwesterly direction.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 44 kms of the depression centre is about 40 kps rising to 50 kph in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain moderate near the depression centre.
Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist distant cautionary signal number one.
Regarding the current heat wave, the Met office says that mild heat wave is sweeping over Khulna division and the regions of Madaripur, Rangmati, Rajshahi, Pabna, Barishal and Patuakhali. It may abate from some places.
The day’s temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
