Low over Bay likely to trigger tidal surge

The monsoon depression over the Bay of Bengal is likely to trigger tidal surge of 3-4 feet height above normal astronomical tide in low-lying areas of coastal districts.
The monsoon depression over Khulna region and adjoining area moved slightly northwards and lies over Jessore and adjoining area (near lat. 23.2°n and lon. 89.3°e) at 12 noon on Wednesday and is likely to move northwards further, said a special bulletin of Met office. Under its influence steep pressure gradient persists and deep
convection is taking place over North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
Squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal no three. The districts of Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Comilla, Faridpur, Dhaka, Madaripur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Barisal, Bhola, Pirojpur, Jhalakati, Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira, Jessore, Kushtia, Pabna and Rajshahi are likely to experience wind speed up to 50-60 kph or more in gusts/ squalls. Low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Barguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barisal, Pirojpur, Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by tidal surge of 3-4 feet height above normal astronomical tide.
All fishing boats and trawlers over north bay have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.
