A vast low lying area of nine unions of four upazilas of this district have been submerged due to further rise of water level in rivers Padma, Madhumati and Arial Khan.
The affected upazilas are Sadar, Charbhdrasan, Sadarpur and Alfadanga.
The normal water level in river Padma is 8.65 meters while it was flowing yesterday at 9.08 meters. Water Board sources said that Padma is now flowing above 43 centimeters above danger level.
This situation has created due to onrush of flood water from the upstream. According to eye witnesses and people of the locality few thousand of people have become marooned when their homesteads were submerged.
People of about nine unions living in the low laying areas on the river bank and also in mid-stream of Padma have become marooned, says an official source.
The only road connection of Goldangi area of North Channel union was submerged yesterday creating inconveniences to the people of that area.
According to Faridpur district administration the situation is does not demand any relief while they are ready with a cash of Taka 2 lakhs and 60 tonnes of rice which will be distributed as and when situation will arise. The source of district further informed that they have applied to the Relief ministry for another Taka 2 lakhs and 100 tonnes of rice.
The source told BSS that the situation is not so much alarming at this moment but they are closely observing and monitoring the situation.
