Staff Reporter :Country’s low-income group and small investors will have to face an extra pressure due to the proposal for increasing revenue collection in the fiscal 2016-17, said Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on Sunday. In a statement, Executive Director of TIB Dr Iftekharuzzaman said as the tax has been imposed tactically on the common people in the proposed national budget, the socioeconomic inequity and instability will rise in the country.”To achieve the increased revenue collection target in the proposed budget, it has been proposed to impose tax directly or indirectly on low-income people, small investors, pensioners and general people,” he said.Besides, Dr Iftekharuzzaman said, the tax rebate facility has been minimised significantly for low-income people than the rich, which is ‘unfair’.In the statement, he urged the government to reconsider the proposal for imposing tax on common people and not to put any extra tax burden on them. The TIB also protested the provision to whiten the black money in the proposed budget.
