Lopa’s husband confesses killing

Actress Nayar Rahman Lopa was allegedly killed by her drug addicted husband at their residence in the city’s Gulshan area. Lopa’s husband Al Amin admitted to the police about his involvement with the mysterious killing of the actress, Gulshan thana’s Sub-Inspector and Investigation Officer of the case Md Asaduzzaman said on Tuesday.
Lopa acted in Tuni’s character in noted author Humayun Ahmed’s popular television serial ‘Eeishob Dinratri’. She had been working in different dramas over the last several years after abstaining from media for a long time.
Mentioning the forensic report and allegations of the victims family, Asaduzzaman said that Lopa was stabbed to death by Al Amin over a long-term family feud. He poured poisonous liquid on the mouth of Lopa after killing her at their residence. “Al Amin had been continuing physical and mental torture on Lopa since October, 2000, while. Lopa did not protest and divorce him considering the dignity and social status of their parents,” the police official said.
He said that Al Amin also confessed that he was a drug-addicted.
Police arrested Al Amin on Friday and produced him to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court and the court sent him to the jail, Asaduzzaman said.
Lopa’s mother Razia Sultana filed a murder case with the police station day after the killing, the police official said.
Lopa left behind two daughters, Anha Amin, 9, and Azari Amin, 6. They are now staying with the parents of Lopa.
