Chaiman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Minstry of Ports & Shipping Major (Retd) Rafiqul Islam said govt has undertaken long term planning for development of the principal sea port of the country . Considering the pressure on Chattogram Port after 50 years, development works and procurement of handling equipments are be taken.
He disclosed it while exchanging views with the media persons at Bandar Bhaban this morning (Sunday).
PSC chairman told that to accelerate the dynamism of the country’s economy , there is no alternatives of the rapid development of the premier seaport Chattogram. Besides, dredging of Karnaphuli river, resistance to pollution and eviction of illegal possession of river banks must be completed.
He further said Prime Minister desires to implement the Bay Terminal in first track priority. In the press briefing, Chairman of CPA Rear Admiral Zulfikar |Aziz presented a completed informative picture of present capacity of the port and hailed the positive role of parliamentary standing committee on port’s development.
Port Chairman hoped Chattogram Port will achieve international ranking at 57th positon very shortly . The other members of the PSC are Ranjil Kumar Roy MP, Mahfuzur rahman MP, M Abdul Latif MP, Dr. Samil Uddin Shimul MP, SM Shahjada MP , joint secretary of the ministry Abdus Sattar, deputy s ecretary Begum Maleka Parvin, Dr.Dayal chand Mandal, Deputy Director of Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat Abdul Jabbar, senior Asstt. Secretalry SM Aminul Islam were present in the press briefing. The PSC members earlier visited the under contructing PCT, NCT, CCT , Karnaphuli channel and Matarbari Deep Sea project site. Among others, Member(Engr) Capt Mohidul Hasan chowdhury, Harbour Marine commodore Shafiul Bari, chief hydrographer Commodore Arifur Rahaman, port secretary Omar Faruk, Deputy Manager (Estate) Zillur Rahman, deputy secretary Azizul Mowla were present.
Besides, port users forum leaders including President of Chattogram chamber Mahbubul Alam were present on the occasion.
