A long tailback of about seven kilometers on the Gazaria part of the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway contributed to untold sufferings for the passengers on Thursday.
The bus passengers and others were constrained to stay in the buses for about seven to eight hours.
Many of the passengers and drivers fell ill failing to adjust with strange situation. Many of the passengers left the transports and began to walk to their destination.
Alamgir Hossain , Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gazaria Highway Police said, traffic jam triggers when huge vehicles from the four-lane highway approach try to enter two-lane Meghna Bridge
Enormous pressure of vehicles on the highway since Thursday morning caused the traffic blockage which also put effect on Comilla part of the highway. Police were active to clear the traffic jam, police added.
