Long marchers fail to hold rally in Jessore

Jessore police did not allow holding scheduled rally of national committee to protect oil, gas and mineral resources in Jessore town on Friday evening.
The long marchers, however, took shelter at several places in Jessore town, Iqbal Kabir Jahid, leader of the committee and polit bureau member of Workers Party of Bangladesh told New Nation.
The marchers hold a rally at Palbari, on the gateway of Jessore town on late afternoon where leader of the national committee, Anu Muhammad, Ruhin Hossain Prince, Iqbal Kabir Jahid and Mahmud Hasan Bulu spoke.
Anu Muhammad, in his speech told that the government was trying to destroy the mangrove forest Sundarbans by allowing Indian company to establish thermal power plant near the forest. He urged the government to stop the destructive project immediately if it wants welfare of the country.
Talking to New Nation, Illias Hossain, officer in-charge, Kotwali police told in the evening that the marchers have entered into the town.
