Loko Natyadal (Siddheshwari), one of the most prominent theatre troupes in the country, has been selected to stage their highly praiseworthy production Konjush (The Miser) at the ‘14th Biennial Liverpool International Theatre Festival.’
The festival will be held from October 18 to October 21 in Canada.
Loko Natyadal’s Konjush is scheduled to be staged on October 20 in the world renowned Astor Theatre stage located in Liverpool of Nova Scotia in Canada. With the festival, the popular theatre troupe is going to stage the 715th show of their popular production.
Led by Liaquat Ali Lucky, a 12-member team will arrive in Canada on October 17. The other members of the team include Swadesh Ranjan Dasgupta, Sabina Bari Lucky, Shamsuddin Ahmed Sagar, Monirul Haque Sarkar, Rubel Shankar, Azizur Rahman Sujon, Masud Sumon, Khadiza Mostari Mahin, Poly Kujur and Shahriar Kamal.
Based on playwright Molière’s world famous satirical comedy, The Miser, Konjush has been adapted and dramatised by noted theatre personality-actor Tariq Anam Khan and directed by Liaquat Ali Lucky.
Through situational satire, humour and crude slapstick, Konjush weaves the story of two families living in Old Dhaka. The story of miser Haider Ali brings out some hidden negative tendencies of the elite people in a comic way. To make the play enjoyable, Tariq Anam used the typical Dhakaiya dialect, mixture of Bangla and Urdu.
