More than half a million people of Amirabad Union in Lohagara, Chittagong are suffering due to lack of a bridge in Ghonapara area. According to some, the villagers are crossing at risk with a wooden bridge. The wooden bridge built with their donations has been in disrepair for years. Despite the assurances of the people’s representatives during the election, no one came forward to build a bridge later.
It has been seen on the spot that Ghonapara on the west side of the canal, Rahat Ali Chowdhury Para, Amir Khan Chowdhury Para, Nazir Ali Munshi Para, Muhuri Para and Brahman Para, Talukdar Para on the west side of the canal with a wooden bridge built over the Tonkabati canal at Ghonapara North Amirabad in Amirabad Union of the upazila. , About 15,000 people in the Jaldash area are traveling at risk. The road east of Sanko joins Majumdar Para and joins Abdul Khaleq’s shop on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway. Every day the people of the area have to cross the wooden bridge to Padua Bazar, Upazila Health Complex and Lohagara Sadar for various needs. Students on the west bank of the canal also have to cross the bridge at risk to go to North Amirabad Government Primary School, North Amirabad MB High School and Bar Aulia University College. As a result, parents are worried about coming and going. Every year, the locals repair the bridge with bamboo, wood and poles and arrange for some transportation. Even though people have been risking their lives year after year, the authorities have not been kind to them even today. As a result, the bridges of the people on both sides of the canal remain elusive.
Locals said a bridge over the Ghonapara Tankabati canal in the union is much needed.
