The logo unveiling ceremony of Bangabandhu Gold Cup International Football Tournament-2015 was held at the Balcony of the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the city on Thursday.
Minister for Finance and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup Abul Maal Abdul Muhith unveiled the logo as the chief guest.
Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy, President of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) and President of SAFF Kazi Salahuddin, Senior Vice-President of BFF Abdus Salam Murshedy, General Secretary of BFF Md Abu Nayeem Shohag, Managing Director of Channel 9 Enayetur Rahman, President and Managing Director of AB Bank Limited Shamim Ahmed Chowdhury, Executive Members of BFF Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, Sheikh Md Maruf Hasan, Md Amirul Islam Babu, Alomgir Khan Alo, Bijon Barua were present, among others at the occasion.
A total of six teams splitting into two groups will take part in the gala football meet. Bangladesh, Malaysia, Sri Lanka have been billed in Group A while Bahrain, Singapore, Thailand have been placed in Group B.
The extravaganza begins on January 29 while the competition will come to an end on February 8.
Most of the matches will be held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium while three matches and a semifinal will be taken place at the Sylhet District Stadium.
Kazi Salahuddin said, “Our target is to play in the semifinal. Then take part in the final and then to clinch the Gold Cup.”
Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said, “There was an interest for football in this area for a long time. Once the spectators of this area went to Calcutta from Faridpur to watch the football matches in Calcutta. I hope that the football lovers of the country again come to the stadium and watch the football matches.”
