As their repeated attempts failed to move the officials concerned, the local residents repaired 500-feet long Shomshernagor-Nittanandapur Road in Kamalganj Upazila of Moulvibazar district voluntarily on Saturday.
The locals decided to carry the repair works after the damaged road caused of terrible accidents in past few months. When visited Roghunathpur village then locals work and repairing this road on weeklong.
“We were promised road repair by government nearly few months ago but after the inordinate delay we decided to carry the necessary repairs on our own,” Jomshed Hosain, a resident of Roghunathpur village.
“We have been pursuing the authorities to get the road repaired but even after the promises and visits by the local UP member the repairs were not carried,” said Jasim Uddin, a resident of same area.
“The dilapidated road was causing major trouble and we were hopeful after the local UP chairman visited our area but they broke their all promises,” said locals Sabuj Chandar Deb.
Tajul Miah another local said that he could send his children to school during the rains. We decided to carry the road repair on our own.
Contacted, Shomshernagor Union Parishad member Rehana Begum said, we are tring to repair this road but not get budget.
Kamalganj Upazila project implementation officer Md. Asaduzzaman told this correspondent that UP member submitted a proposal for road but we didn’t get permission yet.
