The government plans to extract 300mmcf to 400mmcf gas daily towards the end of this year and 1200mmcf after completion the development work under the Bibiyana Extension Project, Petrobangla sources said.
Under the project, up-gradation of Bibiyana gas process plant and extension, drilling of west pad well, construction of road between process-plant and drilling-pads, installation of gas gathering pipelines between process-plant and different wells will continue,
After completion of the project, the government expects to get 1100mmcf to1200mmcf gas daily from the Bibiyana Gas Field, said Professor Dr. Hossain Mansur, Chairman of Petrobangla. But the target for completion of this project may be delayed, as a vested quarter has been disturbing work at Gas Plant site for various demands, he added.
The vested group also tried to destabilise and create anarchy there to realise their ‘illogical’ demand, the Petrobangla chairman in his official letter informed the Power Ministry.
He has sought administrative support from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division to implement the Bibiyana gas extension project perfectly and timely.
He also requested the ministry to take necessary steps to ensure law and order in the area adjacent to the Bibiyana gas plant site and its surrounding zones.
The Chevron Bangladesh Limited gave priority to the local people of Dighalbagh and Enayetganj in recruiting workforce for the Bibiyana gas field and also for supply of construction goods since 2005.
Besides, the company engages them to construct roads, bridges, culverts, educational institutions
and healthcare centers, the chairman said. Naser Ahmed, Director, External Affairs of Chevron Bangladesh said. “From the very beginning, we have been actively working with the community to boost local contents as much as possible. In this expansion project alone, over 1,100 people have been recruited from the local community.”
We have also launched significant social development initiatives for the underprivileged communities in the Bibiyana area, he said.
“Our economic development programme has helped establish more than 875 small and micro-enterprises here,” Naser said, adding, “We provide scholarships to 680 students annually, and 786 previously out-of-school children are receiving non-formal primary education.”
Two Chevron supported clinics have so far given quality, affordable health-care services to 38,000 people, he said, adding, all these are done just to ensure that community is benefited from the Bibiyana project.
