LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain said the local government bodies would be strengthened to implement the present government’s pledge for power decentralization.
“Modernizing local government institutes would contribute more to national development by providing training to local government representatives and development workers,” he said this on Monday while presiding over the 45th meeting of National Institute of Local Government (NILG) management board.
State minister for rural development and cooperatives M Moshiur Rahman Ranga and local government department secretary Abdul Maleq and other committee members attended it.
Mosharaf Hossain said the NILG would be restructured in light of experiences of local government system of neighboring countries. He said the present government has introduced party symbol in local government election for strengthening democracy.
The minister said training would be given to people’s representatives so they could contribute more to changing lot of the people.
